Friday is the 100th anniversary of arguably the greatest and most beloved work in Nebraska literature: Willa Cather’s “My Ántonia.”
For those not great at math, the book was first published on Sept. 21, 1918, by Houghton Mifflin Co.
A milestone in American literature, “My Ántonia” is considered to be the Red Cloud scribe’s first masterpiece. In the century since its release, the novel has become a staple of high school lit curriculum and a fixture of best-novels-of-the-20th-century lists. It showed up in top 100 rankings by NPR and Entertainment Weekly.
