Red Cloud Community Fund to give away salt-free ice melt pellets to all downtown building owners
by the Red Cloud Community Fund
The Red Cloud Community Fund (RCCF) is pleased to support local business owners by providing pet-safe, salt-free ice melt pellets to all building owners who have recently had new sidewalks installed downtown.
This initiative is intended to help protect newly poured concrete during its first winter season. Traditional salt products can cause damage to new concrete, especially during the freeze-thaw cycles that occur throughout the winter. By using a salt-free alternative, property owners can help preserve the appearance, durability, and longevity of their new sidewalks.
We ask all participants to use the ice melt pellets sparingly and only as needed to maintain safe walking conditions.
Beginning in the second winter season after installation, traditional salt products may be used on the sidewalks. However, RCCF encourages owners to continue using all de-icing products sparingly. Once snow and ice have melted and the sidewalk surface has dried, any remaining salt residue should be swept or removed to help minimize long-term wear and deterioration of the concrete, as well as pedestrian-safe walking conditions.
Thank you for helping protect this important community investment and for doing your part to keep our sidewalks safe and in excellent condition for years to come.
