Village of Guide Rock

Village of Guide Rock

Starting Monday, June 1, 2020, the village office will be open to the public during regular business hours.
The village office’s regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 8-12 and 1-4.

Guide Rock, the only town in America with that name, is located in Webster County, on the north bank of the Republican River.  Guide Rock was named after a prominent rock bluff-Pa-Hur, which was an important landmark and guide to early trappers and the Pawnee Indians.  Guide Rock was settled in 1870.  The railroad was built through Guide Rock between 1881 and 1882.  In 1950, the Diversion Dam was erected 2.5 miles West of Guide Rock.

The Auld-Doudna Library, in Guide Rock, was a gift to the community by a former banker, Wm. Auld in memory of Nathan Doudna. The library has an extensive newspaper collection dating back to the turn of the 20th century.  Along with the library, the town also has a community center, a large park, and a fire hall.

The Guide Rock-Eckley Alumni banquet is held the Saturday of Memorial weekend every year.  Another event that takes place in Guide Rock every year is the Rockin’ G Arena’s horse show.  The horse show takes place on the Sunday of Father’s Day weekend every year.
